Whiteplains British School opened in 2007 with the aim of providing to the community’s successful parents and guardians an education commensurate with the best in the United Kingdom. Over the past four years the School has developed steadily, appealing to the elite within Nigerian society who have very high expectations of their children and their School. The majority of the Secondary School and some of the Primary School students are full-time boarders. WBS is highly ambitious – offering many additional programmes to both its School-age students as well as adult learners. It is a CIE registered examination centre, offering University of Cambridge secondary school courses: Checkpoint, IGCSE, AS and A2. It also has a close relationship with Edexcel and Global Education Counselling, providing their approved/designed International Degree Foundation Programmes in Year 12 as an alternative to A’ Level.

The Pre-School consists of Playgroup, Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception. Primary classes in Years 1 – 6 currently have an average class size of about eight students. Whiteplains places great emphasis upon students’ Literacy and Numeracy, but also offers its young learners French, ICT, Food Technology and Music in addition to the core subjects. There is also an extensive extra-curricular programme, and the students are particularly keen on music, dance and drama.

WBS is owned by a consortium of Directors, who appointed a new School Principal in 2010 to take the School forward. The Primary Coordinator is line-managed by the Principal.

Whiteplains British College, the ‘sister’ institution for Upper Secondary and undergraduates, opens in the 2011/12 academic year, allowing the present School greater space and independence for its Primary children. With this move provides the successful candidate the opportunity on occasion to co-lead and co-manage with the Lower Secondary Coordinator not only the Primary Section but the School as a whole.
