The Governors invite applications for the Headship of Thornton College to succeed Miss Agnes T. Williams who is retiring after 18 years of strong leadership and high achievement.
Founded in 1917, Thornton is the most successful non-selective school in the area with exceptional 'value-added'. Thornton is a Catholic school with a strong Christian ethos and has an enviable reputation for providing outstanding teaching, strong pastoral care and a challenging and exciting curriculum.
Thornton has grown considerably over the past fifteen years, both in terms of pupil numbers and in facilities and now has over 350 pupils and award-winning new developments.
The Governors are seeking to appoint an outstanding Headteacher with the inspiration to lead the school and oversee and manage its future development.
The Headteacher is expected to provide professional leadership and practical management for the school which secures its success, ensuring high quality education which realises the potential of all pupils. Thornton College is a leading independent Catholic day and boarding school for girls. It is one of the most successful non-selective schools in the UK and offers a warm and nurturing educational environment alongside a rigorous and exciting curriculum.
There are approximately 400 children in our school from Pre-Prep to Sixth Form. Over 70 girls board on a weekly or termly basis and many more take advantage of our occasional boarding option (when beds are available).
The School is set within 25 acres of beautiful parkland just outside Buckingham and within easy reach of Milton Keynes, and conveniently located between Oxford & Cambridge. Children of all Christian denominations, of other faiths and of no faith are welcome in our school. All are equally valued and all are equally important. Our most recent ISI inspection report judged the school to be ‘Excellent’ in all areas and the successful candidate can be sure of working with a team of extremely dedicated staff in a very motivating, forward-thinking school environment.
