Job overview
Here at Ofqual, we are passionate about the quality of qualifications. It makes us tick. It is why we are here. We want all the qualifications that we regulate to be of the right quality, whether they be in Plumbing, Childcare, Maths or Greek.
We are changing the way we work and the way we regulate, to drive improvements to regulated qualifications of all types, wherever they are needed.
As a regulator, the focus of our work is on making sure qualifications and assessment arrangements, both academic and vocational, are of the right standard.
To be successful we need to recruit the right people who can use their expertise to help us regulate and implement changes without undue risk to standards or delivery.
A member of the senior team, the Executive Director for General Qualifications will be responsible for our established GCSE, AS and A level Reform Programme, and for the work we do day to day to ensure the quality and annual delivery of GCSE, AS, A level and other related qualifications.
We are looking for a senior leader, ideally with a background in qualifications or regulation.
The successful applicant will be someone who thrives under pressure, copes well with uncertainty and is comfortable with complexity; Good judgement, intellect and well developed strategic thinking abilities will be essential. First class communication skills will also be important, as you build and maintain relationships with government representatives, exam boards, school and college representatives and others key to our success.
Above all, we are looking for someone who leads intelligently and understands how to get the best out of good, committed people who will generally know more about the nitty gritty.
