Job overview

Graphics and Media Teacher, Warwickshire

This is both a challenging and exciting time to be working at Ash Green School. I hope that you will be enthused and excited by the prospect of working in a school where student behaviour is excellent and levels of attainment have beaten all external targets by record margins.

This year, the examination results were our best ever, with 100% 5 A* - C in any GCSE and 77% 5 A* - C including English and Maths. We beat or FFTD target by an amazing 19% and continue to smash expectations about what can be achieved. 95% of students attained a C grade in GCSE English and 78% in Maths. We are the fourth highest performing comprehensive school in Warwickshire and among an elite group of schools nationally when looking at performance against FFTD target data, being place well into the top 1%.

In May 2013 we were judged as '...good with outstanding features...' by Ofsted. The team were clear that the projected examination results would have secured an overall "Outstanding" judgement. They acknowledged they had come a term too early!

Our challenge is to ensure a continued delivery of excellence at all levels of operation and maintain the necessary high levels of drive and ambition as we encounter a sequence of changes to public examinations and accountability measures. We are aiming for 100% of each cohort to attain a C grade plus in English, Maths and Science and at least two other GCSE's.

We seek to appoint a newly qualified or experienced teacher to teach predominantly Graphic Design and Media at Key Stage 4. You will also be teaching Design at Key Stage Three. At Key Stage Three the design curriculum is based upon Art and Design and Graphic Design. The curriculum is underpinned by the Creative Education Academies Design Programme.

Your skills may equally allow for the development of Level 3 Graphic Design based courses within our sixth from and also the delivery of the current Level 3 Media Studies Btec.

The school has offered a very popular and successful Level 2 BTEC Creative and Media course and is now developing GCSE Graphic Design at KS4 as an alternative and ultimately a successor to Media. A Level 3 Creative Media Production course has also been introduced for the Sixth Form with Plans to extend Graphics into post 16 as student's progress from KS4 in the near future

We offer a great opportunity for you to develop your career in a dynamic and forward thinking school where student behaviour is excellent and levels of attainment have beaten all external targets. As a Creative Education Trust academy you will be exceptionally well supported as we drive to secure consistently outstanding levels of achievement. Successful candidates should look forward to a challenging but productive context within which to work where there is every opportunity to flourish and to lay excellent foundations for career progression. Our pay policy allows for reward where staff generate outstanding outcomes.

Please log onto our website www.ashgreenacademy.org or come and visit our school to see for yourself the potential that exists. Mr. Michael Rennie, Senior Vice Principal, will be available for candidates to discuss posts on an informal basis over the telephone.

For further details and an application form please visit the TES jobs online or the school website.

Closing Date: Friday 25th April (Midday)
Interviews: During week commencing 28 April 2014

Ash Green School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful application will be required to apply for an enhance DBS disclosure.

As a comprehensive school, we value all members of our community as individual people with differing needs and abilities. We work to provide a stimulating and caring environment, in which everybody can do their best.

Our status as a Creative Education Academy plays a very significant part in our day-to-day experiences. Creativity lies at the heart of all that we do.

We are a forward looking, outward facing school and we are not afraid to innovate in order to achieve our main aim - for all our students to be the best they can be. We are establishing a strong foundation for delivering excellence and welcome applications from individuals willing to roll their sleeves up and join in.  Expectations are set very high but the rewards are great.

The journey to outstanding

The school provides a well equipped learning environment.

There is a collaborative, positive and purposeful atmosphere amongst the team of staff at the school. All Staff expect each other to be the best that they can be. Our internal CPD programme is of a very high standard and meets a range of needs from newly qualified staff to established Curriculum leaders seeking whole school responsibility.

Ash Green has also embarked on a significant curriculum journey with a new Key Stage Four design that will deliver increasingly flexible routes for student learning. Our KS3 course is for two years, allowing 3 years fir KS4 courses.

We successfully fought for and opened a Sixth Form in September 2012.  It has delivered excellent initial results.  The students have already begun to demonstrate a visible ‘halo’ effect around the school.  Their curriculum contains a careful blend of academic and vocational courses that builds upon their KS4 experience.  We aim to develop and build this in the future.

Student Learning

We believe in offering a broad-based education at Key Stage 3. At Key Stage 4, students begin to specialise as they to prepare for education and training post-16. We are also preparing students for lifelong learning in an increasingly changing world with many exciting opportunities and our curriculum is designed with this in mind. Every student has different abilities, aptitudes and interests and we work hard to ensure that each experience is relevant, engaging and successful in terms of public examination results and initiative, independence and imagination.

Learning Support

We believe that students achieve their best when they are confident and secure, where there is mutual respect and trust and where help and support is always at hand. We are very proud of the quality of relationships and close partnerships which exist between home and school. Our students mature in a caring, supportive and well-ordered learning environment. Traditional values of hard work, respect for each other and high personal standards of dress and behaviour are encouraged at all times.
