About Redland High School for Girls

Redland High School for Girls, located in Bristol, is a selective independent school founded in 1882. Although nominally a single-gender school offering places to girls aged 3-16, boys are accepted until the age of 6. Admission to the school is dependent on a formal academic assessment, while entrance to the senior school is via examination.

In 2016, Redland High School for Girls announced a merger with another local girls’ school, Red Maids' School. Together they will form Redmaids' High School from 2017.

Acting headmistress

Perdita Davidson

Values and vision

Redland High School places a huge amount of importance on academic excellence, setting a high standard for its pupils at GCSE and A-level. The school operates a high-quality but diverse curriculum, with girls having the opportunity to expand their interests into any subject area. Although Redland has a strong belief in the value of a single-sex education, pupils have the opportunity to socialise with boys via regular events held in conjunction with local boys’ independent schools.

ISI report

“Pupils of all abilities throughout the school, including the EYFS, achieve particularly well and make excellent progress through a wide-ranging, flexible and balanced curriculum, complemented by excellent extra-curricular activities. Pupils are well educated, in line with the school's aims. They have well-developed numeracy, literacy, and information and communication technology (ICT) skills which positively enrich their learning and facilitate their progress.”
