STEM Academy Tech City is a brand new Sixth Form Free School which opened in September 2013. Based in the London Borough of Islington close to the Tech City Hub, we provide a unique educational experience for 16-19 year olds who are interested in, and demonstrate an aptitude for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM). We have state of the art, brand new facilities, amazing students and outstanding staff. We are approaching our second year and we need a Head of Department for our expanding IT/Computing and Engineering department.
The Job Role
The role of Head of Department will be pivotal in providing a high quality education and great overall learning experience to all our students to ensure that everyone progresses to either university, work or an advanced apprenticeship.
The Head of Department will support the Principal and Deputy Principal to provide effective and inspiring leadership of their curriculum area; the quality of learning and teaching; implementation and monitoring of KPI's and the effective and efficient utilisation of resources and staff. They will also have responsibility for the day to day organisation and administration of the department.
The Head of Department will have line management responsibility for members of staff as determined by the Principal. They will work closely with the SLT to ensure the Academy is run effectively in line with all legal and best practice requirements and delivers fully to its stated aims, objectives and Vision. They will strive to achieve the highest results for learners
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a Head of Department
- Who is an Outstanding teacher and has a track record of achieving great results in their subject area
- Has leadership and management experience in a highly successful post 16 provider
- Who understands the process of enabling students to progress to the best universities and employers
- Is a team player and is dedicated to achieving the best possible results for STEM Academy and its students
- To be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, be pro-active and definitely have a sense of humour
This is an ideal opportunity to really make a mark in a STEM specialist Sixth Form Academy that is dedicated to the delivery of excellence. The role will provide the opportunity to work with the Principal, John O'Shea to help shape the Academy.
