About The Priory School
The Priory
Our school is organised into six colleges. As a member of a small college community we ensure that no student is left behind or unknown. Each college is committed to creating an environment in which every student is known and understood by the college leadership team and teachers within the college. This structure supports the student’s academic progress and personal development.
Our vision is for every student to leave The Priory School as a young adult, who has good character, is resilient, confident and who is a rounded citizen. The college structure is able to support this vision exceptionally well. We have to make decisions throughout life and this can often be challenging. The Priory School is committed to providing information, advice and guidance so that students are informed and are able to make the right decisions and choices, whether this be when managing their own conduct or planning next steps in their education or future.
The Learning Experience
The learning experience that we offer is personalised and aims to meet the needs of all our students. Our pathway structure is designed to recognise differences across the range of abilities from the most able (Pathway 5) to those students requiring additional educational support (Pathway 1). Regardless of which pathway a student is in, they will be challenged and stretched and all will follow a core curriculum including English, mathematics, science and physical education. In Key Stage 3 (Years 7 & 8) students follow the National Curriculum which is broad and balanced and includes the core subjects. Selecting subjects to study at GCSE or equivalent level begins during Year 8.
In Key Stage 4 (Years 9 – 11) core subjects are studied by all students alongside a subject range that is personalised to each pathway. This provides all with the opportunity to achieve their best possible GCSE/ equivalent qualifications. Many other extra-curricular opportunities are available to our students. We strongly encourage students to become involved in events, fund
raising, clubs and activities, school trips and residential visits, including to Ramfield, our outdoor education centre in Wales. Becoming involved in school life in this wider sense and contributing to the spirit of the college community has a positive impact on the development of young people.
We are very proud of our school and what our young people achieve. This success is due to our high expectations, a commitment to continuous improvement, and our belief that all students can succeed and are entitled to the best education possible.
