Job overview

Head of English, Birmingham

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to head up our English department from 1 September 2014. You will be joining a hard-working and supportive team in a school where staff morale is high following three years of solid improvement and our record breaking exam results in August 2013. The English department is highly successful, with boys consistently achieving levels of attainment and progress above national averages for boys. English is popular with our boys and is strong in the sixth form, where we teach English literature and Creative Writing. We are therefore looking for a candidate who is able to teach across the age range, including AS and A2 level.

All teachers in the school benefit from the support of our pastoral team who have transformed the behaviour and ethos of the school and made it a calm and enjoyable environment for staff and boys alike. We also have an approachable and flat management structure that values the skills and views of our department heads.

The successful candidate will be highly motivated and have the potential to deploy a range of leadership styles to maximise the impact of a knowledgeable and hard-working team. They will also be an inspiring classroom teacher who can build on the motivation of our boys and channel their enthusiasm into even higher levels of achievement.

A retention bonus of £1000 p.a. will be paid in September 2015 and September 2016, provided the candidate is still in post, to reward continuity of successful service.

Application forms and further details about the post and the school can be obtained from our website www.kingsnortonboys.bham.sch.uk or by ringing Mrs Jackie Best, the head's PA on 0121 628 0010. Prospective applicants are most welcome to visit the school.

Closing date: 4pm Friday 2 May 2014.

KNBS is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
