Job overview

Al Khor International School is one of the largest international schools in the Middle East with over 4,000 students. We are owned by RasGas and Qatargas, the world's two largest producers of liquefied natural gas.

The school has exceptional facilities and is located in Al Khor Community, 40 minutes north of Qatar's capital city Doha.

What we are looking for

The successful candidate will have experience in leading a successful Gifted and Talented Program and a solid reputation for having met desired goals. The person will have strong leadership that includes the knowledge of best practices for Gifted and Talented Development within a school community. This position reports to the Head of Projects and will work closely with the Headmaster, Heads of Schools and Student Affairs. The post will have 75% non-contact time and any subject specialism will be considered.

Successful applicants will also fulfil the following goals:

Strategic Leadership & Management

  • Liaise with senior leaders to devise the AKIS Gifted & Talented Strategic Plan
  • Set up structures and staff to operationalize the Gifted & Talented mission
  • Undertake an audit of what Gifted & Talented practice already exists in the school
  • Review the audit to identify future provision
  • Monitor the school's Gifted & Talented policy, in discussion with other team leaders, to ensure it is working in practice.
  • Ensure the ongoing place of Gifted & Talented development in the school's priorities.
  • Analyse Gifted & Talented practice against AKIS desired outcomes for the Gifted & Talented and international standards

Curriculum Improvement

  • Work with the G&T coordinator(s) in order to devise and implement strategies to monitor and review practice, working with and through other team leaders across the school.
  • Liaise with the Data/Assessment Leader to monitor any Gifted & Talented students in danger of underachieving.
  • Keep self & others informed re: Gifted & Talented developments locally and nationally.
  • Liaise with subject leaders / heads of department / pastoral leaders / year teams etc. to ensure effective identification of and provision for Gifted & Talented pupils in the everyday classroom.
  • Work with the G&T coordinator(s) to oversee and support complementary enrichment programmes.

Workforce Development/CPD

  • Offer/broker support and advice to colleagues about identification, provision, enrichment, extension etc.
  • Work alongside other team leader colleagues to monitor and target pupil achievement, especially with regard to any Gifted & Talented 'register'.
  • Attend / lead / organise external and internal INSET and evaluate its impact on learning in the classroom.

The Community

  • Liaise with other schools to share, celebrate and enhance provision.
  • Use expertise of parents/carers and others in the wider community.

Finance, Resources

  • Draw up and monitor a financed plan of development with senior leadership.
  • Identify, source & evaluate human and material resources to support Gifted & Talented.
  • Develop and maintain a school / department / key stage resources collection to support Gifted & Talented.

The following criteria must be met to move forward in the hiring process for this position:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Minimum of 3 ? 5 years of previous Gifted and Talented Leadership
