The International Baccalaureate is seeking a Head of Communications and Branding based in our Global Centre in The Hague, NL. The International Baccalaureate (www.ibo.org) is a not-f or-pro fit educational organization offering curriculum, professional development and assessment worldwide. The IB has an extraordinary opportunity for you to combine your unique vision and skills to develop, direct and deliver the communications and brand framework and strategy of the organization and to address the needs of the IB's community and key stakeholders consistent with the IB's mission, global strategy and organizational priorities. This person will report directly to the Chief External Academic Relations Officer and also be responsible for the continual enhancement of the IB's brand image and increased brand awareness with an emphasis on social media among both internal and external stakeholders and will line manage all global communications staff.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop IB global communications strategy with an emphasis on brand articulation and management that is aligned with the IB strategy; ensure that each stakeholder group knows and supports what the organization stands for and where it is going, can readily access the information they require about the IB to promote the IB and communicate with other stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain an internal communications strategy/ plan to facilitate IB unity and stren gthen the IB as a learning organization. Direct and support global communications staff so that the communications strategy is understood and implemented.
  • Develop and manage organizational global web communications strategy and social media strategy in line with the organization-wider digital strategy.
  • Ensure that IB World school communication needs and objectives, as well as established standards and practices, are met.
  • Develop, implement and manage the overall multi-media strategy for all corporate media assets including film, video, and text/print and ensure that all publicly-consumed materials are of high quality and are aligned with the overall brand and communications strategy and efforts.
  • Support the DG and other senior staff in speech presentation, messaging, media and (Board) presentations, speaking opportunities and institutional reporting.
  • Feed into organizational risk management plans regarding ongoing risks, emerging c ontroversies or crises that may threaten IB's reputation, brand and/or communications efforts.
  • Oversee the relationship between the IB and any external agencies/vendors/freelances that might be used to deepen, expand and implement the communications strategy.
  • Develop and implement a proactive global media strategy / programme and maintain a realistic global media relations policy, with regional implementation; working closely with senior leaders, research and recognition.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Educated to Degree level in a relevant field
  • Proven leadership communications experience in complex organizations, preferably in non-profits, educational institutions, and/or international, multi-lingual organizations.
  • Proven experience managing multiple, time-sensitive, high level projects involving social media, print, multi-media including film/video and online resources.
  • Knowledge of best practices in communications for educational and global institutions.
  • Proven media relations experience, preferably as an official spokesperson.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead a staff to achieve a high level of service for stakeholders and achieve good team spirit.
  • Able to organize the department tasks and projects, and effectively plan work demands.
  • Proven budget and management experience.
  • Genuine interest in the future use of technology in enhancing communications and education.
  • Outstanding communication skills for working with people of all different levels and from different cultures and for writing clearly for newsletters, brochures, web sites etc.
  • English (oral and written) with superb writing and editorial skills.
  • Passionate about the IB mission.
  • Fluency in other languages, especially French or Spanish a plus.
