Job overview

Head of Kinder in Mexico
The Edron Academy is seeking to employ an experienced Head of Kinder (Early Years to Year 1) to start in January 2015 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Kinder section of the school, which is a purpose built facility, takes children from 18 months to six years of age, after which time they transfer to our primary section. The Head of Kinder is a member of the Senior Leadership Team and reports directly to the Head Teacher.

We are looking for an experienced Early Years practitioner who is passionate about leading high quality learning and who can fully embrace this opportunity and integrate into our very well established and highly supportive school community. The Kinder is an immensely important part of our school and therefore we are looking for a special individual who can lead it successfully into the next stage of development. Leaders with at least two years of experience in a similar post and a good knowledge of the National Curriculum of England, including the Early Years Programme, will be preferred.

The school offers a competitive salary package that includes accommodation, flights, pension, and various other allowances along with life and health insurance cover. Mexico City is a vibrant and beautifully diverse city with a very strong cultural heritage. It lies within easy reach of some of the most visited tourist attractions in the world.

About the school
Edron Academy is a non-profit making institution founded in 1963 by Edward Foulkes, a Welshman who worked in Mexico in the publishing business and as a teacher for the British Council, and by Ronald Stech, a Canadian who became the school's first administrator.

Their vision was "To create a learning community in which every child would feel secure, wanted, cared for and free from tension and hostility. "Over the years the school has retained these fundamental values, while adapting to change and expansion. In 1993, it achieved its bicultural status through incorporation with the Mexican education authority (SEP); and became an IB World School in 1995. It is a COBIS member school which in September 2014 will be the first school in Mexico to be subject to a BSO inspection by ISI.

The school is now positioned as a high level-private school with a unique approach. It offers an adaptation of the British Curriculum that combines the advanced and multicultural focus of British programs with the identification and recognition of the needs of Mexico and the programs of the Mexican Education Ministry

Children are encouraged to question and evaluate, to develop the skills of independent learning through investigation and the ability to work collaboratively in groups. Attention is paid to each child's personal and academic progress in order to ensure that they achieve their full potential.

Through implementation of the school values programme children acquire social awareness and learn the importance of respecting others and becoming responsible members of the community.

All pupils are encouraged to contribute actively in taking care of the school grounds and their immediate environment in order to develop an understanding of broader ecological issues. More information can be found on the school's website: www.edron.edu.mx.
