The School

The GEMS Cambridge International School Abu Dhabi (GCIA) opened in September 2013. Currently we are FS1 to Year 9 and set to grow to Year 13, with an overall NOR of 3400 students, in subsequent years. Students follow the English National Curriculum and Cambridge International Examinations syllabus for IGCSE and A Level Programmes of study. The language of instruction is English. We offer a full, broad and balanced range of learning opportunities both in and out of the classroom.

The Post: Head of Lower School (FS1 -Y5)

As we begin our second year at GEMS Cambridge International School in Abu Dhabi, we are seeking to appoint creative and experienced educationalists to strengthen and support our existing team.

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced school leader who can help the Executive team to shape the strategic direction of the school.

What we would like from you:

  • A background or excellent knowledge of the EYFS Curriculum and KS1 /KS2 curriculum and raising achievement strategies
  • Creativity and enthusiasm in and outside of the classroom which inspires teachers and students alike
  • High expectations of students and staff alongside the flexibility required when managing the challenges of a very large and newly opened school
  • Experience in coaching and mentoring programmes for staff as well as the ability to share your own outstanding practice
  • High expectations that support and challenge everyone in the school to achieve their full potential
  • The ability to develop effective teams, structures and school processes
  • Capable of raising standards whilst maintaining an accurate knowledge of the quality of learning and teaching and assessment practices across the Lower School
  • A minimum of 6 years senior leadership experience within a large Primary School

Applicants will be fully qualified experienced school leaders with experience of the National Curriculum for England. Experience of the international school sector may be an advantage.

You should have leadership experience in a culturally diverse school environment and be capable of mentoring and coaching others within your team.
To be considered for this post you must hold a B.Ed or degree and PGCE / PGDE or equivalent.

We at GEMS and GCISAD are fully committed to building upon the excellent academic reputations of our sister schools, The Cambridge High School, Abu Dhabi and The Cambridge International School, Dubai, to provide an outstanding education for all of our students.

In September 2013, we open the doors to an extensive new school campus, situated near to the Mafraq Hospital on the Mohammed Bin Zayed City/Khalifa B and C boarders.
