Job overview

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and innovative Head of Music to lead and manage this successful department from September 2014.  The post would suit a well-qualified, teacher with a track record of raising student achievement and promoting musical opportunities for all students. The Music department, along with Art and Drama, make up the newly-formed Creative Arts faculty in the school.

Overton Grange is a popular, oversubscribed, comprehensive school, with 1280 students on roll and has enjoyed consistent academic success.  In 2008 the school received specialist status in English and Humanities and in 2011 (along with most Sutton secondary schools) converted from a Local Authority school to an academy. The school is fully committed to inclusion and has a Hearing Support Department.

“Pupils who receive pupil premium funding, disabled pupils and those with special educational needs are making progress similar to their peers. The curriculum is diverse. A wide range of extracurricular activities allows pupils to explore diversity. This develops their spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding. Pupils’ attendance is good. They generally behave well and are supportive towards each other. This enables all pupils, including those accessing the hearing impairment resource, to be included well in academy life. Safeguarding is effective. Leaders and governors undertake appropriate and careful checks on staff, and record information well. Staff undertake regular and effective safeguarding training.”
