Job overview

Broadstone First School is a popular and widely respected school, which has recently been awarded Academy status as part of the Castleman Academy Trust and become an Academy Sponsor, supporting schools that are vulnerable and experiencing difficulty.

We are looking for a "Head of School" to work with the Trust Board and members to build upon a solid reputation and continue our creative and innovative delivery of the new national curriculum. This reputation leads parents to have high expectations for their children and the school.

The school is strongly supported by local businesses and community facilities, and children will often be seen out and about in the local community; whether it be the choir performing to residents of care homes, or groups understanding how local businesses work. A commitment to the curriculum reflecting real life situations is vital for the successful candidate.

Whilst an individual school, we are part of the newly formed "Castleman Academy Trust", and work with other First, Middle and Comprehensive schools in the area to ensure learning is excellent. Whilst the successful candidate will be expected to lead the First School (R - Year 4), there will be wonderful opportunities to work across the 4 - 13 age range.

We are looking for someone who is;

  • Keen to work with Senior leaders across the Trust schools
  • Ambitious
  • Passionate about the early years of education
  • Holds leadership skills that will inspire and motivate both children and adults
  • Focus to achieve the highest standards
  • Committed to sustaining and developing a creative, inclusive and innovative curriculum
  • Eager to continually develop yourself and others through inspiring CPD opportunities.

We have taken the opportunity to ask our children what they would like to see in their new Head of School. Their responses are within the application pack, and include "encouraging, thoughtful, brave and there to hold our hand if we fall over".

If you see yourself in the above criteria, we can offer you;

  • Happy and enthusiastic children who are keen to learn
  • Dedicated and skilled staff who strive to provide the best start in young learner's lives
  • Fervent support from the Executive Headteacher, Governors and the Trust Board in developing your leadership skills
  • Supportive parents who engage in their children's learning

We welcome applications from experienced Assistant Headteachers, Deputy Heads or Headteachers who have demonstrable skills, creativity, passion and the ability to become outstanding leaders.

Visits to the school to meet the Executive Headteacher, staff and children are warmly welcomed. Please contact Tracey Thorne on 01202 694376 or tthorne@broadstonefirst.poole.sch.uk to arrange a convenient time.

Our school is committed to safer recruitment practices and pre-employment checks will be undertaken before any appointment is confirmed. We are also committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expect that all staff to share this commitment.
