Job overview

This is a rare and exciting opportunity for a bright and committed individual to create a new Faculty comprising the disciplines of science, design technology & engineering.

St Aldhelm's is at the point of major changes following recent disappointing results. The academy has new leadership, new pastoral and curriculum structures and is looking forward to working with a new national sponsor under a different name in the course of the year.

The academy moved into new buildings in September 2013 which include superb specialist facilities for working in wood, plastics and metal. There is also a specialist motor vehicle engineering workshop. The governors wish to utilise these facilities to make the science and engineering a key area of the curriculum enthusing and inspiring the students of all ages. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to create the faculty leading a team of specialist teachers, writing schemes of work using their own vision of what these subjects can contribute to every child's educational experience. The Head Science & Engineering Faculty will maintain a relentless focus on strategies to sustain the highest quality of teaching and learning in all the faculty disciplines to achieve outstanding outcomes.

We seek to appoint an exceptional, innovative design technology/engineering specialist to lead this faculty on to success and achievement. Able to teach engineering up to Level 3, supporting the work of the subject leader for science and the other teachers delivering aspects of design technology, the successful applicant will have excellent interpersonal skills and the expertise to deliver first rate learning experiences for young people of all abilities.

The school has excellent professional development opportunities. We are committed to the professional development of our staff and to giving all of our students a rich and varied, engaging education. We are developing close links with local engineering businesses to develop the curriculum generally and very particularly in this faculty determined to create self-confident, enterprising young people with employability and lifelong learning skills.

The successful applicant will be subject to enhanced clearance through the Disclosure Barring Service.

If you are passionate about technology and engineering education; would like the opportunity to create your curriculum from scratch and to be a key leader in the rapid journey to success on which the academy has embarked, we would like to hear from you.

Please send your completed application to trosser@staldhelmsacademy.org

Closing date: Wednesday 15 October 2014 - 5pm.
