Job overview

Allenbourn is an outstanding middle school (Ofsted, June 2012), located in the attractive market town of Wimborne Minster, which is committed to safeguarding its pupils. This school is also designated a Teaching School (Wimborne Teaching School), in conjunction with a local first school, and is responsible for offering support and professional development opportunities for schools in Dorset and beyond. Consequently, Allenbourn is at the cutting edge of educational innovation with many opportunities to lead, support and collaborate with colleagues in the local area. Allenbourn is also intending to convert to an academy in February 2015, as part of a Multi-Academy Trust, with six other local schools.

We are looking for an outstanding teacher to be responsible for the pastoral care of either year 6 or year 7. The successful candidate will also be accountable for academic performance of the year group in question and to lead relevant tutors in meeting their wide ranging responsibilities. Suitable candidates should also see the Teaching School status as an opportunity for their involvement on broader school improvement issues, both within and outside of this particular school.

Should you wish to discuss the vacancy further, and/or visit the school, please contact the school and ask to speak to the Headteacher, Derek Brooks.

Closing date: 10 October 2014

If you have questions about this role, please contact: Derek Brooks, Headteacher, Tel: 01202 886738, Fax: 01202 856058, Email: derekbrooks@allenbourn.dorset.sch.uk.

About Allenbourn Middle School

Allenbourn is a mixed 9 – 13 middle school whose catchment area covers the attractive market town of Wimborne and the surrounding villages.  Allenbourn moved in to a brand new building with very good facilities in March 2003.  The school is set in pleasant grounds, close to the town centre.

There are around 610 pupils and 36 teaching staff, some of whom are part time.  At the end of Year 8, the children transfer to Queen Elizabeth’s or Corfe Hills upper schools, and between 10 to 15% of the pupils leave at the end of Year 7 to attend local grammar schools.

Allenbourn Middle School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expect all staff to share this commitment. This position is subject to enhanced disclosure checks under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
