Rook’s Nest Academy converted from an ‘Outstanding’ school to an Academy in September 2011.

The Academy is situated in the village of Outwood, approximately two miles north of Wakefield. The Chairman of Governors, Father John Butterworth, is the Vicar of Outwood.

The Academy is housed in a modern, open plan building. The governors have a phased plan of capital improvement which ensures that the Academy buildings are of a quality and appropriateness for 21st century teaching and learning. The Bishop How Building was completed in summer 2013 and incorporates specialist facilities for teaching food technology and music as well as a large library.

The grounds of the Academy provide a wonderful setting for outdoor learning and play and they include environmental areas.

There are currently 371 pupils on roll, divided into 12 classes.

The vast majority of children enter Lower Foundation Stage from Rook’s Nest Pre-School which admits children from two years of age.

The Academy also provides its own childcare services for wraparound, before and after Academy and holiday care, both of which were judged outstanding in 2011 and 2013 placing the academy in the top 5% of providers in the country.

OUR ETHOS AND VISION

Outstanding Education

This Academy is proud of its considerable achievements but seeks to continually improve and further enhance the learning experiences of its pupils through innovative and dynamic approaches, the hallmark of schools that seek to go beyond ‘outstanding’. Our teaching and support staff will strive to provide an excellent learning environment that nurtures and enables every pupil to reach their full potential so no one is left behind.

We have created an environment that promotes lifelong learning and the vision of education as an on-going process that accompanies our pupils through their journey into young adults.

Pupils at Rook’s Nest Academy will be shown the importance of demanding the best of themselves: to aspire, achieve and succeed.

Principles

  • We strive together for the very best that we can achieve both collectively and individually
  • Teaching and learning  is essential and should not be disrupted
  • We need a safe learning environment where pupils can thrive
  • We want pupils and staff to feel happy and secure
  • We expect everyone to display respect and good manners
  • Everyone should be clear about our high expectations

We have created an aspirational ethos that encapsulates our commitment to providing an excellent quality of educational experience for our pupils, staff and parents.
