Job overview

Aberdeen - City for Learning

Our vision is to develop Aberdeen as a City for Learning, with public, voluntary and private sectors working together to provide a quality learning environment for all our citizens. Inclusion, raising achievement and lifelong learning lie at the heart of our plans, and professional and motivated teachers are crucial in providing high quality learning experiences for young people.

Kittybrewster Primary School

Kittybrewster School is a large, Victorian, granite building first opened in 1899. It is built on three floors around a central well. The playground is large and has had approximately 50% of its surface levelled and re-tarred. The playground has been improved by the addition of a venture trail as well as a green all weather area - both of which have proved popular to all pupils. There is a fenced area to the front of the school which allows our Nursery classes to play safely out of doors. There has been recent improvements/upgraded to the garden area offering our pupils an 'outdoor class' opportunity.

The Dining Hall is a relatively modern extension to the school, and the Nursery department, built of two old classrooms, is an excellent teaching area. The classrooms are large and have all been equipped with modern tables and chairs. In addition, the school has a Gym Hall, Art room, Support for Learning base and Nurture Room (opened in January 2011) as well as the IT suite.

Kittybrewster offers 'wrap around' care with both a breakfast club as well as 'Stompers' - an after school club.

The school is situated in an old, busy part of town which has very mixed social backgrounds. It is is part of the St Machar school group, with the majority of Primary 7 pupils transferring to St Machar Academy in August. For session 2014 - 2015 there are plans for 11 classes from Primary One to Primary Seven. Kittybrewster has two Nursery Classes, one morning class and one afternoon. The school roll, is estimated to be 300 for next session with an additional 40 pupils in the nursery. The Primary 1 classes continue to be capped at 18 in line with Council policy.

The management team, consisting of the Head Teacher along with Deputy Head Teacher, lead the school. For session 2013-14 the DHT was non class committed.

Qualification Requirements

Full GTC (Scotland) Registration in relevant subject. PVG Membership for Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults or willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.

Job Specific Requirements

The following vacancy is available now, and appointment will be subject to full registration with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT.
