Job overview

Aberdeen - City for Learning

Our vision is to develop Aberdeen as a City for Learning, with public, voluntary and private sectors working together to provide a quality learning environment for all our citizens.  Inclusion, raising achievement and lifelong learning lie at the heart of our plans, and professional and motivated teachers are crucial in providing high quality learning experiences for young people.

Culter School

Culter School is a non denominational school located in the village of Peterculter on the western outskirts of Aberdeen City. Peterculter has a mixture of private and council housing. Almost all children live within the school catchment with a small number who travel from the outlying areas of Maryculter, Drumoak and Durris.

The main school building is a traditional Victorian granite structure with a free standing Nursery and demountable unit which provides extra space for Music and Art and Craft.

The buildings are generally in a good state of repair.

Primary classes are located in enclosed classrooms all of which are well equipped with Interactive whiteboards and data projectors. Co located activity areas provide additional space which is used to very good effect to provide a range of activity based learning. The school also benefits from a fully equipped ICT suite, large gymnasium, GP room, meeting room, support for learning base and separate canteen. A new school library was opened in 2010 as a result of a very positive fundraising initiative by parents. This offers children of all ages an extensive selection of fiction and non fiction books.

The school has a spacious playground including areas of hard standing tarmac, a large grassed area, garden area and a dedicated, equipped nursery play area.

The school has very strong partnerships with the local community. Parent Council members are represented on the Community Council and both groups regularly work in partnership on many school and local initiatives.

Qualification Requirements

Full GTC (Scotland) Registration in relevant subject. PVG Membership for Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults or willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.

This will be done in accordance with the Authority's Strategic Plan, Local Improvement Objectives, the school's Improvement Plan and in line with current legislation and national and local agreements.
