Job overview

NOR 473 including Nursery, Group 3,

ISR L18 - L24 (Pending review in line with changes to the Trust Pay Policy)

Due to the resignation of the highly respected and longstanding Head Teacher of Malvin's Close Primary Academy, the Board of Directors of The Blyth Quays Trust is looking to appoint an enthusiastic and inspirational leader to be the next Head Teacher of this successful and oversubscribed academy.

The Blyth Quays Trust was established in March 2013. Malvin's Close Primary Academy is one of three primary schools within this multi-academy trust. The schools work in close partnership to provide excellence through high aspirations, high expectations and high achievement. Each school operates with its own Local Governing Body that provides representative governors to the Trust's Board of Directors. Each Head Teacher is a Director of the Trust.

We are very proud of our pupils and their achievements. At this academy everyone works hard, both academically, and at our wide range of clubs and activities that develop specialised talents and gifts. Pupil attainment has been consistently above the national average (Source: Ofsted Data Dashboard 2013). Year 6 test results in 2013 placed the school in the highest quintile for pupils' attainment at Level 4 and above in reading, writing, mathematics and the grammar, punctuation and spelling test when compared to all schools and similar schools. At Key Stage 1 in 2013, assessment outcomes were above the national level for Level 2 and above in reading, writing and mathematics. The school's KS1 - KS2 value added score in 2013 was 100.7.

In 2012 Ofsted graded the overall effectiveness of the school as Good with the behaviour and safety of pupils being graded as Outstanding. Malvin's Close was identified by Ofsted as a school that encourages pupils to behave outstandingly well and provides excellent spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.

There is a successful and well established Place To Be resource within the school. The academy has achieved many awards for high quality provision and achievement in the Arts, ICT, Science, PSHE and PE and sport.

In the last five years we have experienced a number of significant changes. We changed from a First school to a Primary school and moved into a brand new 'state of the art' building in 2009 offering our children amazing indoor and outdoor facilities to enhance the curriculum, as well as becoming an academy in 2013.

We can offer you:

  • The opportunity to work within an Academy Trust that values collaboration and cooperation above competition.
  • The professional support and challenge from working closely with the other Head Teachers in the Academy Trust
  • A friendly and supportive learning community that enables our children to achieve their very best and reach their full potential.
  • Governors who are committed to providing the very best education for every child in the academy.

We are looking for a Head Teacher who:

  • Has a proven record of effective teaching and learning with at least 3 years' experience of Headship across the primary age range.
  • Has the determination to continue to drive the academy forward in improving progress and raising achievement.
  • Can lead, motivate and inspire.
  • Understands the added value that working as part of a Trust can bring.

The school, as an Academy, is still at any early stage in its development and this Headship opportunity offers applicants the rewarding challenge of helping to shape the future direction of the academy as part of a new and dynamic multi-academy trust.

We would warmly welcome and encourage all applicants to visit our Academy. Appointments should be made directly with Mrs Cheryl Waters, Acting Head Teacher at the academy.

The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment. The post is subject to a successful DBS clearance (certificate of disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring service) and pre-employment checks will be undertake before an appointment is confirmed.

Application packs are avail-able from Jenn Austin at Avec Partnership Ltd, Tel 01325 281480 or email: jenn.austin@avec-partnership.com. Applications must be returned via email to Jenn Austin or by post to Mr David Grey, Chair of Board of Directors, c/o Avec Partnership, Suite 9 Yarn, Lingfield House, Ling-field Point, Darlington, DL1 1RW.

Closing date: 4pm on 15th September 2014
Interview dates: 25th and 26th September 2014
