Job overview

Headteacher, Manchester

Levenshulme High School is a dynamic, ambitious and highly multi-cultural 11-16 girls comprehensive school with approximately 1000 on roll in Manchester. It is working very closely with Whalley Range High School and, in September 2014, they will become a co-operative multi-academy trust. The school has a proud history and is located in extensive grounds which combine the benefits of bright and inspiring new facilities, traditional buildings and a community use sports centre.

Following a brief period of instability, the school was placed in an OFSTED category in July 2013. This is being positively addressed through a clear strategic plan, the partnership with Whalley Range and a motivated and ambitious staff. Good progress is being made on all fronts.

There is a tangible desire amongst the staff to do the very best for the young women who are, themselves, well motivated and hard working. It is the team ethos and commitment to learning that provides the solid platform for success and which will see the school develop into the successful organisation that all stakeholders want it to be.

The Governing Body recognise the many challenges that lie ahead and are now looking to appoint a new Headteacher, to work alongside the Executive Headteacher, to harness the many strengths of the school and lead it to a confident and sustainable future. This is an outstanding opportunity for the new Headteacher to drive improvement and create a vision for the future that engages students, staff, parents/carers and the community.

If you are an experienced senior leader in a secondary setting, with a successful track record of sustained improvement and a determination to maximise the opportunities available then this role offers an excellent opportunity to challenge yourself in a new environment. Highly motivated and driven, applicants must have an in depth knowledge of excellence in secondary education, a commitment to high quality teaching and learning and should have the creativity and vision to inspire and lead change but also the focus to ensure successful outcomes are reached. You will need a 'can-do' attitude that can inspire and engage students, staff and the local community.

You must display compassion and be familiar with holding staff to account and also being accountable for outcomes. You will have an excellent understanding of the qualities required for effective school leadership. Above all you will believe that children, their learning and developing their potential is at the heart of all decisions.

Closing date: 1200, 6th May
Interviews: 12th and 13th May

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people/vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to an enhanced disclosure from the DBS
