Job overview

Headteacher, Hampshire

Are you someone who enables others to find their true potential?
Are you ready to take up our challenge?

St. James' CEC Primary School, serving the pretty Chichester Harbour town of Emsworth, is seeking a new headteacher.

The vacancy has arisen as our present headteacher retires at the end of December.

A "smiley" school, our vision of "Loving learning, loving life, loving God's world" and our core values of respect, friendship and excellence are much in evidence.

We have sought the views of governors, children, parents, and staff about our prospective new headteacher:

  • The governors are looking for a leader who will develop a strong vision for the school, enhance continued outstanding provision of education so that as many children as possible achieve more than expected progress, and, in the light of staff changes, ensure leaders at all levels are working effectively.
  • Our children say they want a headteacher who is fair but firm, good at listening, and "cheery not dreary."
  • The parents want someone with outstanding leadership skills, an expectation of high standards both in education and behaviour, and who has strong clear values.
  • Our staff put great store on a leader who is enthusiastic about learning and life, demonstrates humility and integrity, and "who can use their wishbone, backbone and funny bone in the quest to succeed."

We are a 34-pupil entry school, which, in the light of infant class size regulations, has resulted in some vertical grouping in KS1. In Year 3 children form one single year class, in which they remain as they go up the school.

For further details and an application pack, please contact Education Recruitment by email eps-recruitment@hants.gov.uk or by telephone 023 8038 3535 (24-hour answerphone).

Closing date: midday Tuesday 20th May 2014.
Interviews: Tuesday 17th and Wednesday 18th June 2014.

St. James' CEC Primary School and Hampshire County Council are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We will ensure that all our recruitment and selection practices reflect this commitment. All successful candidates will be subject to Disclosure and Barring Service checks along with other relevant employment checks. We welcome applications from all sections of the community.
