Job overview

Aberdeen - City for Learning

Our vision is to develop Aberdeen as a City for Learning, with public, voluntary and private sectors working together to provide a quality learning environment for all our citizens.  Inclusion, raising achievement and lifelong learning lie at the heart of our plans, and professional and motivated teachers are crucial in providing high quality learning experiences for young people.

Milltimber School

Milltimber School is a non denominational school located in Milltimber, a west end suburb of Aberdeen City situated between Cults and Peterculter. Milltimber is a semi-rural community set in the very pleasant surroundings of Deeside.

Milltimber School serves the local community and is situated within very attractive grounds. It was opened in 1970 and since then has been extended and completely refurbished to provide a very attractive environment for learning and teaching.

The main school building is of an open plan design currently providing accommodation for 9 Primary classes and a nursery class. Built on three levels, it composes of four separate teaching blocks, each being linked to the main school hall. In addition, two classes are currently accommodated in a very well resourced demountable unit.

A number of classes are located in dedicated areas within each teaching block. All teaching areas are equipped with individual interactive white boards and data projectors and have access to a number of desk top computers. In addition, the school has a well equipped music/multimedia room, ICT suite and a computer 'bus' of notebook computers.

The well resourced library provides all children with a wide range of fiction and non fiction material.

The school also benefits from a large well equipped games hall with stage area which is frequently used for school concerts and performances. Lunches are prepared on site in the school canteen and served in the dining room which is also used as an additional GP room. The teachers' library and resources room and support room provide further accommodation for preparation and for teaching and learning.

The school grounds contain two all weather playgrounds and a large sports field surrounded by attractive woodland.

Milltimber School is very well supported by parents and the local community. Although there is no industry or shops, the school enjoys strong partnership with the Community Association and children are provided with a large number of community activities which extend and enrich their learning experiences.
