Job overview

Barrs Court Specialist (SEN) School and College is a secondary phase specialist academy for pupils with learning difficulties and disabilities aged 11-19 years which has been judged outstanding in its last three successive OFSTED /HMI inspections.

Barrs Court is a very popular school and numbers on roll have increased in recent years to the current total of 114. In September 2011 the school opened a new sixth form provision in a nearby establishment and has been instrumental in helping establish a post 19 years LDD further education centre.

Barrs Court has a positive, child centred ethos and enjoys a strong national reputation for the high standard of its provision for learners who have complex needs. Successive inspections have invariably reported on the high standard of pupil behaviour and the cheerful, confident outlook which pupils are able to maintain.

The successful candidate will work alongside a dedicated, hard-working workforce, an energetic Governing Body and a well informed Board of Trustees, all of whom are committed to raising standards in the education and therapeutic care the school provides. Candidates are sought who can readily demonstrate inspiring, positive leadership and have the ability to further improve the school.

Barrs Court School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All vacancies that involve working with vulnerable adults and/or children will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service check at Enhanced Level, along with other standard pre-employment checks.

Prospective candidates are very welcome to visit prior to applying and/ or request an informal telephone conversation with the Acting Headteacher.

Assistance with relocation costs up to £5K would be considered for the right candidate.
