About Oldhill Community School

Tyssen Community School is a large friendly primary school situated in the Stamford Hill area of Hackney. We are a two-form entry school with a vibrant and welcoming Children’s Centre. We offer childcare for children aged 6 months to 5 years and education from 3 years to 11 years. We believe that school should be an enjoyable and enriching experience for all our children; one which enables them to progress well and achieve their full potential.

At Tyssen, students are encouraged to feel part of our extended family, which includes parents, staff and members of the wider community. This sense of community is reflected in our school motto: Together for Excellence – together we encourage our children to be ambitious and aspire to succeed.

We have very high expectations of ourselves to provide an excellent education for all the children who attend our school and children's centre. We have high expectations for children’s’ learning, behaviour and attendance.

The Children’s Centre at Tyssen caters for children from birth to five years of age. This lively, inclusive Centre is one of the strategic hubs in Hackney and, as such, benefits from a huge variety of services offering emotional and practical advice, signposting to other services and longer term support for more complex difficulties. Our strong emphasis on inclusive learning, play and working together, provides a perfect foundation for a smooth and easy transition to primary school.

Tyssen Community School is a partnership between pupils, staff, parents and governors. It is this partnership that has shaped our common vision for the school and enabled us to focus on rapid improvement and collaborative working to raise attainment. We are extremely proud of our school and the achievements of our students during their time with us.

During our last Ofsted report we achieved a good judgement with outstanding features for leadership, behaviour and safety. We were proud when Ofsted made the following comments about our school in December 2013:

“Governors are very dedicated to the school’s development.”

“Middle and senior leaders work relentlessly to drive improvement.”

“Consistently good teaching provides pupils with memorable experiences.”

“Behaviour of pupils in the school is excellent, both in class and around the school.”
