Newsome Junior caters for children between 7 and 11 years. We have approximately 230 pupils on roll who live in the adjacent catchment area and beyond. Our school is very popular with parents and has an excellent reputation locally. Our hard work and dedication achieves excellent standards for all pupils. We pride ourselves on our commitment to each individual child, to developing the whole child and valuing all areas of the curriculum. Music, Art and Sport all play a valuable part in our busy days.
Our school was judged OUTSTANDING in all areas by OFSTED in February 2009.
The school building provides an excellent working environment and is valued and cared for by pupils and staff alike. We are fortunate to be placed in a beautiful setting overlooking beautiful rural areas all around us. Our school is on the same site as the local High School and a specialist school for pupils with complex and profound learning difficulties. The links with both of these schools affords us many valuable opportunities and facilities.
All classrooms are resourced with up to date ICT equipment, a school computer suite allows access to full classes of pupils. PPA time has been well established for all staff for many years.
Parents and Governors are highly supportive. Regular after school activities are offered to pupils by school staff and visiting specialists. School trips, school discos, sports teams and school productions are an established part of life at Newsome and again supported well by everyone. School meals are cooked on site and healthy meals of an excellent quality are offered each day.
The school has 8 classes, 2 in each year group with a teacher and support assistant allocated to each. Our staff include experienced teachers at AST and Leading Teacher level. Great emphasis is placed on providing a quality learning environment for all with an emphasis on giving, taking and sharing responsibility.
The school has an active Pupil School Council and Pupil Eco- Committee. Pupil behaviour is excellent and pupils enjoy their time in school. Excellent standards in end of Key Stage assessments have been achieved for a number of years placing the school consistently within the top 5% of schools nationally.
