Job overview

"The school has been successful in ensuring that all students achieve well across a range of subjects."(Ofsted October 2013).

Lawnswood School is a popular, successful school providing over 1,100 students aged 11 to 18 years with learning of the highest quality set within a modern campus and offering sector leading facilities. We have been on a rapid improvement journey to transform learning, this has been highlighted both by our recent inspection from Ofsted in October 2013 where we were recognised as a 'Good' school and as we celebrated our best ever results in 2014 with 59% of our students achieving 5 A*-C (including maths and English).

Our vision is for Lawnswood School to be recognised locally, regionally and nationally as an exceptional school and a beacon of best practice. We are already on this journey, but want our new Headteacher to lead both our staff and students, as well as working in partnership with parents, to achieve this vision together over the coming years.

We are looking for an experienced leader and inspirational practitioner who will contribute to the school's ethos of high expectations and aspirations for all children. Solid and effective leadership is central to the future success of our school. Ensuring our new Headteacher will build on our achievements to date whilst providing fresh drive to our vision moving forward is critical. You will be committed to providing young people with an exceptional education through strong leadership in innovative and forward-thinking teaching and learning and carefully structured guidance and support. You will inspire, develop and challenge staff to be outstanding practitioners to ensure every learner has the very best opportunities to succeed along their individually chosen pathway.

This is an exciting time for the right person to join us; we are on a path to excellence and are looking for the right person to take us from good to outstanding, harnessing the considerable talents of our students and staff on the way. Like any role of this scope, this headship has the potential to be challenging yet hugely rewarding.

If you are looking for a truly distinctive school, where you can make transformational and sustainable change then we would like to hear from you.

The school wants its students to become caring, committed, self-aware and confident members of society. It aims to ensure all students are treated as individuals and are able to excel.

Lawnswood aims to ensure its students are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence to undertake the next stage of their career, and hopes to foster leadership and engagement to encourage pupils to make a positive contribution to their school and community.

Ofsted

“The ambition and total commitment of the headteacher has raised the expectations of students and staff. This has resulted in significant improvements in the quality of teaching so that the school and inspectors judge more than three-quarters of teaching is now good or better.”

“Students’ achievement is now good overall, especially in the sixth form, where students make strong progress from relatively low starting points and achieve above the national average. All aspects of provision in the sixth form are at least good and some are outstanding.”
