Job overview

The Delce Infant and Nursery school and its thriving Children's Centre, is situated in the heart of the community that it serves in Rochester. It is a large Local Authority school which operates a three form entry, with 292 pupils currently on roll. The Children's Centre, which is led by the Headetacher, works closely with multiple agencies to provide integrated services to the local community.

The Governing Body seeks to appoint an exceptional individual who is able to provide inspirational leadership and a firm commitment to continuous improvement in a school that is on an exciting positive trajectory in the heart of Medway. The school was inspected by Ofsted in June 2014, and the inspecting team recognised the progress made. The ethos of the school is very positive, pupils are keen to learn and proud of their achievements; parents are confident in the school; the leadership team is strong and the school works closely with the Local Authority. The areas for development that the leadership team have identified are seen to be thorough and accurate, and a clear and ambitious plan for improvement is in place.

Candidates for this post will be able to sustain the good progress that the current Headteacher and her team have made by developing the knowledge, skills and talents of the staff, raising aspirations in the pupils and engaging with parents to ensure that their children are making progress. The right candidate will be able to innovate, challenge and inspire others, articulating their visions and strategies with clarity and purpose. They will be committed to collaboration and building relationships with a range of stakeholders in order to impact on pupil progress and well-being. A proven record of success in accelerating children's progress will be expected, especially working with vulnerable groups and those with Special Educational Needs. The ability to adapt approaches, model expectations and excite colleagues to develop the quality of teaching and learning is crucial to the continued development of the school. Strategies to support effective transition between curriculums and year groups will also be an essential skill.

For the full person specification and job description please see the Headteacher Brochure which outlines the key competencies of the candidate whom we seek to appoint for this pivotal role in our school and local community.

There is a competitive salary available for this post and the Governing Body would consider supporting relocation for the right candidate.
