The Propeller Academy Trust, which consists of two Special schools and a local college of FE, aspires to offer an outstanding educational and social experience to children and young adults with learning difficulties from the age of 2 through to 25.

As part of the Propeller Academy Trust, Kingfisher School offers a very special education to over 80 pupils, aged between 2 and 19 years old, with severe and complex learning difficulties and autism.

Kingfisher School has been on a rapid journey of school improvement. The appointment of Headteacher will be made to The Propeller Academy Trust but will be based at Kingfisher School. Whilst the successful candidate will make a significant contribution to the continued upward trajectory of school improvement at Kingfisher, all new appointments to the Trust may be expected to work across the three settings, drawing on the expertise of other colleagues, initiating new ways of working and developing teams across the Trust. This is a rare opening for an ambitious, creative and motivated individual to experience a wide range of opportunities for professional development.

The Trust wishes to appoint an inspirational leader to the post of Headteacher at the Kingfisher School in Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The Trust is seeking a highly motivated individual who will thrive in a job that presents continual challenge and significant rewards.

The successful candidate will:

  • Have proven leadership and management skills
  • Have the ability to lead with energy and enthusiasm
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to lead, motivate, inspire and support the whole school team
  • Have the ability to work alongside colleagues to promote good learning and teaching
  • Have an excellent understanding of the needs of children with a wide range of learning needs including PMLD, SLD and autism
  • Be committed to involving parents and the community
  • Have a deep understanding of Safeguarding
