The Unicorn School is a leading, specialist day school for boys and girls aged 6 to 13 years diagnosed with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia or speech and language impairments. We are based in Abingdon, serving families in Oxfordshire and neighbouring counties. The school is expanding to offer a secondary curriculum from September 2015.

We measure our success by the children's positive feedback and the excellent testimonials received from their parents. We have also received some excellent Ofsted and CReSteD reports; in February 2012 Ofsted stated that "The Unicorn School provides an outstanding quality of education which fully meets its stated aim."

The Unicorn is the only school in Oxfordshire, and one of only nine schools in the country, to have earned the prestigious ICAN accreditation at an Enhanced level. ICAN is a children's communication charity, which help schools develop their skills in identifying and supporting children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).

The school has a skilled and committed team of staff who are absolutely focused on developing strong personalised relationships with the children, facilitated by daily one to one sessions with every child. This both ensures they receive the best possible care and importantly allows them to achieve their potential both socially and academically.

The school is now looking to appoint a Headteacher who will maintain the school's unique ethos, build on its strengths and lead it through its next exciting phase of development. The successful candidate will be ambitious, highly motivated, driven and forward thinking; they will understand the qualities required for effective school leadership in a special needs setting, will be able to display initiative and will have the skills to build, lead and inspire effective teams. Above all they will share our passion and belief that the children's learning, care and development of their potential are at the heart of all decisions.
