Brecon High School defines its vision as “preparing students for their future by developing strong values, and maximising personal potential in a safe and caring learning environment”. Staff provide a high standard of teaching and have high expectations of all pupils, who are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning. The school encourages staff, parents and governors to unite in providing an inclusive, consistent environment to help the students succeed.

The school has a strong Welsh identity: a Welsh-medium class is taught to each year at key stage 3, and 96 students are taught in Welsh.

The school also offers an on-site autistic spectrum disorder centre.

Estyn

“Many teachers have strong subject knowledge. They provide pupils with helpful support during lessons and foster positive working relationships. In the majority of lessons, teachers plan appropriately and provide activities that build successfully on pupils’ prior learning. They question pupils effectively and match activities well to the needs and interests of pupils of different abilities. In these lessons, many pupils make suitable progress.”
