About St James CofE Primary School

St James Church of England Voluntary Controlled Primary School provides education and learning to children from 4 to 11 years old.

It is a two form entry school, with 2 extra bulges classes totalling 16 classes, all of which are mixed ability.  The school accommodates 480 children and is large enough to offer a wide range of activities but importantly small enough to ensure that every child is nurtured as an individual.

The school is set in exceptional grounds - a large playing field, excellent outdoor facilities, modern play equipment, woodland and orchard areas and access to the Broadwater lake.  Teaching facilities are very good, offering space and resource for children of all abilities to be fully supported.  In addition, there is an extended school hours provision on site both before and after school and an extensive offer of extra curricular activities.

There is a fully staffed team of teachers, teaching assistants, administration and support staff.  The professional staff, under guidance and in consultation with the Leadership Team are a highly enthusiastic and motivated team working together to develop and implement the curriculum.

The Governing Body has an active and supportive presence in school, bringing a range of community and business experience with them.  They work in partnership with the Leadership Team to help ensure that the school is the best it can be, through appropriate support and challenge.

In addition, there is an extremely active PTA and St James benefits from the strong support given by parents.  For example, the PTA raised over £20,000 in the last school year which was spent on outdoor play equipment for the school.

St James has a strong presence in the community and has healthy links with the Parish Church and other schools in the area.
