Job overview

We don't want a Headteacher.

We want an inspirational leader who will embrace the challenge of taking our school from Good to Outstanding.

Our school has plenty to offer the right candidate; we have a dedicated teaching staff and committed senior and middle leadership teams. The children are happy and eager to learn and our Governing Body is supportive and encouraging. The last piece missing from our puzzle is you. Can you complete the picture and lead us forward as we drive up the standards of teaching in our school to ensure that every child achieves their potential?

This is a great opportunity to progress your career in a school where your determination and ambition will be encouraged and supported by our eager staff. Our school has high standards because we believe our children deserve the very best we can give them. A commitment to these standards will be evident in your passion for staff development and will be reflected in our commitment to your professional development.

As a Church of England school our faith is at the heart of all we do and this is evident in the children who are well behaved, eager to learn and accepting of each other and their differences. There is plenty of opportunity to build on the established relationships with other schools and organisations, like the local Church, and to cement our place and yours as a key player in this community.

Whilst we aim to appoint as soon as possible we are prepared to be flexible about a starting date for the right candidate.

Visits are positively encouraged and can be arranged on: July 17th (2pm -3.30pm) and 21st (9.30am - 12noon) and September 12th (10am - 12 noon) and 16th (2pm - 3.30pm).- please contact the Clerk to the Governors, Janet Davies - at clerktogovernors@stjohns.kent.sch.uk or phone 07532 400929.

For more information and to apply please visit our microsite http://www.kent-teach.com/microsites/26086/133/st-johns-ceprimary-school.aspx

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Closing date: 19th September 2014.
Interview dates: 9th-10th October 2014.

About St John's Church of England Primary School

St. John’s is a school with a Christian foundation and we welcome all children and adults into our community. We want our children, families and staff to know that they are valued, cared for and to be happy. We want our children to be passionate about learning and to equip them with the tools that will enable them to flourish academically, emotionally and spiritually.

1 Corinthians 12 v 12 says, ‘there is one body, but it has many parts. But all its many parts make up one body.’

We are a Voluntary Controlled Church of England School situated in Tunbridge Wells. We have three forms of entry with a total of 630 pupils. We offer a wide range of extra curricular activities to pupils.

Vision and values

St. John’s aims to provide a curriculum that engages, empowers and inspires a love of learning. It seeks to foster independence, confidence and creativity in every child and to instil Christian values to prepare them for later life. The school values are Honesty, Respect, Empathy, Courage, and Inclusivity. We believe that every child is an individual with different needs and that it is our role to ‘Nurture the Potential in everyone’.

The school focuses on literacy, numeracy and ICT. Learning and thinking skills, and personal, emotional and social skills, are built into every lesson.  Sports are also a big part of school life.

Ofsted report

In March 2023 inspectors noted that, ‘the school values of honesty, respect, empathy, courage and inclusivity are woven through the fabric of daily life’. The report highlighted that 'everyone is welcome in this friendly and nurturing school. Staff have high expectations of pupils’ behaviour and achievement,  including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Behaviour throughout the school is calm and settled. Pupils are polite and considerate of each other. They work hard and enjoy their learning, often feeling inspired by their teachers'.
