Wigan & Leigh College are looking to recruit to the key post of Higher Education Director. We are looking for candidates with a strong proven track record of success in HE within FE combined with a collaborative management style to lead the Higher Education agenda forward. You will have the drive to deliver results and work with a range of cross College teams and managers to achieve this.

You will have significant experience along with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Framework for Higher Education Qualifications, understanding of the regulatory framework and University Partner requirements and knowledge of higher education funding and quality requirements.

As part of the management team you will make a significant contribution to the development and quality of higher education programmes. You will respond to higher education initiatives and funding requirements and prepare the higher education budget. You will act as the key contact with partner universities and awarding bodies.

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant subject and will possess an appropriate recognised teaching qualification. A management qualification at Level 3 or a willingness to attain within 2 years is also essential.

Wigan and Leigh College is a further education college in Wigan, Greater Manchester, which has been providing education and training locally for more than 150 years. It employs around 1,000 staff and has a student roll of about 17,000. Further education students can choose the A-level professional honours programme or vocational qualifications such as BTECs. An expanding higher education portfolio of foundation degrees, top-up degrees, higher nationals and certificates is available to adult students of all ages, both full-time and part-time. 

Wigan and Leigh College operates from several sites across the borough: the Parson’s Walk Centre, School for the Arts and Pagefield Centre are in Wigan, close to the town centre. The Image Centre and Leigh College are close to the town centre of Leigh.
