The Academy

GEMS Wellington Academy - Silicon Oasis opened in September 2011, offering the National Curriculum for England with IB Diploma and IB Career-related Certificate at Post 16 currently to over 3500 students from Foundation Stage to Year 13.

As part of our continued expansion of our Post-16 IB offer and in partnership with Pamoja Education, we are launching an online IB Diploma based at the Academy and managed by the IB E-Learning Coordinator. We are the first school globally to offer the entire Diploma online. This is a truly unique post and opportunity.

The Post: E-Learning Coordinator

The role of the E-Learning Coordinator is to provide support to students enrolled on the GEMS Wellington Academy online IB Diploma. They will take day-to-day responsibility for pastoral care, in accordance with the Academy standards and standards which have been agreed with Pamoja Education specifically for this online programme.

As the key relationship manager and first point of contact for parents, students, Academy staff and Online teaching staff, the IB E-Learning Coordinator must exhibit excellent communications skills.

Key aspects of the role:

• To embody the values, vision and ethos of Wellington Academy, Silicon Oasis (WSO) and assist the CEO, Secondary Principal and Pamoja Education in delivering policy which will ensure high quality and successful outcomes for Post-16
• Academic and Pastoral point of contact for vertical tutors, Heads of House, Directors, online teachers and Pamoja Education.
• Academic mentor and Pastoral advisor to the IB Online Diploma students
• Organise, facilitate and administer all Internal Assessments for the relevant IB online courses in agreement with Pamoja and WSO IB teachers.
• Organise and schedule in liaison with the Examinations Officer all IB external examinations.
• Conduct all IBIS related administration with regard to the IB online Diploma.
• Ensure that students have the requisite materials and conditions for access to online courses.
• Organise the reporting process and regularly engage in discussions with parents and online teachers with regard to student progress.
• Plan and deliver the TOK course in partnership with the Pamoja Education TOK teacher.
• Provide guidance and support throughout the EE process and act as an additional supervisor.

Person specification:

• A preference of 3 years working in an IB instituition with a thorough knowledge of tutoring, career guidance and the core aspects of the Diploma Programme
• Knowledge and understanding of both online and blended learning approaches
• Applicants will be fully qualified teachers with a B.Ed or Degree and PGCE or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Knowledge and understanding of what constitutes high quality educational provision and how to secure it within the Academy
• Possess drive, enthusiasm, determination and boundless energy to improve the life chances and experiences of students
• Generate high expectations, enthusiasm and commitment from staff, students and parents

It is expected that the successful candidate will be an active contributor to the research and development of blended and online learning approaches within GEMS Wellington Academy.
