Phoenix is an 11-16 co-educational Specialist Sports and Science College, serving the community of Dawley and the surrounding areas of Telford. It is an established community based academy, currently with large grounds and well-equipped modern buildings with good facilities for all subjects. In September 2013, the academy occupied the new buildings in the centre of Dawley which have been specifically designed to support an exciting range of learning and teaching innovations, enabling us to continue to deliver the curriculum of and for the future, to the benefit of our students and the community.

The Phoenix Academy has a long tradition of working with the local community and, as a Full Service Extended Academy, has established many links over the years, both with families, local primary schools and other community agencies, providing a range of valuable services to the community, including links to both statutory and voluntary organisations in the community and social and recreational facilities for the Dawley area.

The academy has clearly established values, which promote an orderly, purposeful and harmonious environment and a climate of tolerance, trust, respect and understanding pervades the academy.  Our highly professional staff are committed to an expectation of the highest levels of achievement from all of our students.  Students are encouraged and motivated to achieve personal success in all areas of academy life.  Students report that Phoenix is ‘a good place to be’.

You are invited to visit the academy at any time convenient to yourselves.  Please telephone to make an appointment.

Message from the Acting Principal

As Acting Principal I am committed to building upon the progress that Phoenix has made towards providing an outstanding educational experience for all students. We will continue to develop confident and aspirational learners, who excel in their academic, personal and social development.

I believe every child really does matter and that all of our students should feel safe, happy and secure in an environment where they can strive for success and enjoy their learning.

Our priority however is clear; every pupil must be effectively challenged and supported to maximize their achievement and to make the very best progress possible. All of our pupils must receive a challenging and appropriate curriculum, with high quality teaching in a calm, well-ordered learning environment. We aim to ensure that they achieve their potential and gain the most relevant qualifications possible; giving them the very best platform possible to secure a bright future.

I believe in the importance of developing well rounded individuals with sound morals and values, ready to make positive contributions to their local and wider communities. Fundamental to my philosophy is a commitment to raise the aspirations of young people whilst equipping them with the knowledge, skills and qualities to help them achieve more than they even dreamed possible.

Mr Steve Carter
Acting Principal
