Teaching at the German School Nairobi.

As most of the communication in the school is done in German, the candidate must have a good knowledge of German.

The German School Nairobi's Primary School is fed by German and English-speaking children from an over-subscribed bilingual Kindergarten. We are therefore strongly committed to enriching our curriculum through supporting bilingualism in the Primary School.

We are looking for a talented, innovative and charismatic English and Music teacher for our Primary School, who will provide English as a First Language to support staff in order to further develop our English teaching. The successful candidate will teach English as well as Music across the Primary School. Candidates must show the willingness and expertise to lead areas of musical performance such as choir and ensembles.

The Primary School of the German School Nairobi prides itself in celebrating both traditional German and international festivals, so we require a dynamic candidate who enjoys preparing and organising events for a demanding audience.

The successful candidate will:

About German School Nairobi

German School Nairobi is a mixed, mainstream, all-through, bilingual, independent school in Kenya, with a sixth form. This international school caters to students aged two to 18 and has approximately 206 pupils enrolled. 

The German School Society of Nairobi was founded in 1964 which then created the German School Nairobi in 1969. It’s a German-speaking school which is supported by public funds from the Federal Republic of Germany. The German School is open to all German, as well as German-speaking children of all nationalities.

The school aims to provide a stellar education for Germans as well as foreign-speaking children in Kenya. It has introduced the German International High School Diploma / School Leaving Examination Certificate to maintain its place in the competitive international school arena. It aims to provide a safe and caring environment for every student to learn in and to recruit talented staff that can help each pupil reach their full potential. 

The curriculum prioritises the subjects of English, geography and history, with English being taught as a foreign language. Extra-curricular activities include drama, choir, music, dancing, soccer, basketball, gymnastics, art and swimming.

Teachers must be able to speak fluent German as they are expected to help students attain certificates that will enable them to return to the inner-German school system once they return to Germany. The curriculum is aligned with the Federal State of Thuringia, which is approved by the KMK. Potential teachers will need to university qualified with an appropriate diploma in teaching.
