Job overview

Lead Practitioner (English), Birmingham

Cockshut Hill Technology College, working with Ninestiles School, An Academy, seeks applications from outstanding school leaders for the post of Lead Practitioner (English).

Cockshut Hill was placed in 'Special Measures' by Ofsted in December 2013. Significant developments have already occurred to ensure that we will not remain there.

The partnership with Ninestiles (an 'outstanding' school with a national reputation for rapid and sustained school improvement) began in January 2014 and has already resulted in the appointment of a new Principal from within the Ninestiles Academy Trust and additional leadership capacity at executive level. Our recent Ofsted monitoring visit concluded that "Swift, substantial and effective engagement with the support from Ninestiles has allowed the school to quickly begin dealing with the weaknesses identified in December 2013.

We are now looking for a dynamic and talented leader who will help us to strengthen leadership across the school and raise the aspirations and achievement of our students.

The core business of all our leaders is to promote the educational success of all our students but possible responsibilities for the post include:

  • The modelling of best-practice in teaching and learning and a high level of professionalism
  • The dissemination of subject-focused pedagogy to support high standards of teaching and learning in the subject area
  • The use of collaborative working practices to support subject teachers in improving their teaching
  • The induction of new members of staff into the subject area
  • The creation and implementation of plans to support individual staff in improving their practice when necessary
  • The use of appropriate data and interventions to support subject teachers in ensuring individual and cohort attainment and progress measures are met

Closing date: 12pm Friday 9th May
Interview Date: W/C 12th May
