Values and vision

South Rise Primary School is keen to promote what it considers to be British values. One such value is democracy. South Rise has a school council, to which members are voted in each year by their peers. Children write a statement to support their proposal to be their class representative and the other pupils decide who will best represent them.

The school also regards promoting the rule of law as important. Children are helped to develop a thorough understanding of personal responsibility and independence in managing relationships and behaviour. The school aims to enable children to gain the language and strategies to solve conflict.

Ofsted report

“Pupils’ achievement is good from their starting points. Attainment in Key Stage 1 is particularly good and is improving at the end of Key Stage 2. Pupils’ behaviour is good. They are caring and thoughtful towards one another and have a strong sense of belonging to the school’s community. Teaching is good and sometimes outstanding. Leadership and management are exemplary. Leaders at all levels share the responsibility for giving pupils the very best opportunities to succeed.”
