Job overview

Ref: DS4/14

Discovery School is the first of its kind. It is an industry driven technical school for 14-19 year olds located in the North East of England centrally based at the very heart of the city of Newcastle upon Tyne. We specialise in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). We are a school with industrial ambition offering a unique learning experience that looks, feels and operates more like a high tech science and engineering facility than a traditional secondary school.

Due to the popularity of the school and increased student numbers we now require a Teacher of Engineering and Design Technology to join us in January 2015.

You will be in tune with our plans for creating an innovative, project led, industrial based curriculum and have the skills, talents and capabilities to turn our plans into practice. As a STEM focussed school we are committed to putting the teaching of engineering and design technology at the heart of learning. You will work with a talented team of practitioners in leading our students to aim high in their aspirations and achievements. With access to prestigious industry partners and support from our lead sponsor NCG, one of the largest educational organisations in the country. You will have access to significant resources to support you in bringing your vision for learning to life at Discovery School.

This position requires an outstanding individual who can work with colleagues to turn strategy into action.  You will have experience of working in education. A background in engineering would be desirable but not essential. You may already be a Head of Department or are someone who is able to demonstrate you have the potential to grow into the post. Discovery School is committed to spotting talent and harnessing potential.

We are an inclusive non selective school and our catchment area spans seven local authorities. We therefore have the future potential to make a real impact in supporting the regeneration of the industrial heart of Newcastle upon Tyne. You will play a significant part in helping us realise this ambition.

Discovery School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff to share this commitment.

Strictly no agencies or canvassing.
