Lead Teacher of Key Stage Five English

Posted 02/02/2012

We are seeking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic Lead Teacher of Key Stage Five English from April or September 2012. This is a new position to support the development of the increasingly popular subjects of English Literature and English Language at Post 16. The role offers an excellent opportunity for an imaginative, creative and inspiring teacher to work in a supportive and energetic school where students are making significant and sustained progress.

You will have a proven track record of success in the classroom and must be able to demonstrate the talent, interpersonal skills and leadership skills required to inspire and motivate students and colleagues. You will aspire, and have the potential, to lead an English Department in the future. Above all, you must have a passion for your subject and be able to embed an enjoyment of English into your lessons.

The successful candidate will take responsibility for teaching and learning across Key Stage Five, reviewing and developing schemes of work and resources, addressing gaps in attainment of underachieving students and ensuring progression is adequately monitored and achievements maximised.

In their recent inspection, Ofsted found "a good school that is rapidly improving" where "the headteacher and her senior team show relentless drive, exceptional commitment and skill in leading the schools' progress." The English Department's involvement in a recent HMI Best Practice Report, highlighted that "Leadership in the subject sets a clear vision for improvement based on high expectations." We are committed to enabling all staff to receive ongoing, high quality and effective CPD and were awarded the Gold Standard Investors in People award in March 2011 that described "an innovative and rapidly improving school."

The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment.
