Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre (NCS) is a dedicated sixth form centre established by a group of nine Newham 11-16 schools in partnership with Newham Council. The centre will open in September 2014 in iconic Grade 2 listed buildings on the East Ham Town Hall Civic

Complex, which are being fully renovated to a high standard with nine new science laboratories. The centre will have 500 students when fully operational and will provide a stimulating education and personalised curriculum within a supportive environment in which students will be encouraged to stretch themselves to achieve their potential. NCS will offer an academic A Level Curriculum with a specialism in Science and Maths, alongside pathways in Humanities. The A Level Curriculum and the extra-curricular programme will be focused on preparing students for progression to selective and Russell Group universities.

NCS is currently looking to appoint an inspirational and motivational lead teacher of Physics with the ability and proven track record to achieve excellent results. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and design the Physics curriculum and student offer, as well as assisting the most able students in Newham achieve their true potential.

The successful candidate for the Physics role will:

  • Hold DfE Qualified Teacher Status, an undergraduate degree and preferably a Postgraduate degree.
  • Have experience of teaching A Level Physics.
  • Have a proven track record of successful learning and teaching and delivering outstanding results.
  • Have the ability to draw upon their professional background to demonstrate their ability to successfully teach Physics to A level standard
  • Demonstrate their understanding of preparing students for the higher education admissions process for highly selective universities, including Oxbridge.

This role will provide the opportunity to work with the Head of Science to establish Physics in a dedicated sixth form centre and help build an expert staff team as the centre grows and develops. We are looking for a knowledgeable and expert candidate to start in September 2014 at the latest.

Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre, also known as The NCS, is a mixed further education institution situated in East Ham, East London. The college has been operating under the patronage of Newham Adult Learning Services; in January 2017, the Department for Education announced that the City of London Corporation would be the new benefactor for the college.

Newham Collegiate Sixth Form Centre officially opened in September 2014, providing education for post-16 students. It holds specialist teaching status in biology, physics, chemistry and mathematics, and was judged “outstanding” by Ofsted in 2016. In a recent ALPS report, The NCS ranked in the top 1% of UK schools for value added.
