Firth Park Academy is a larger-than-average-sized secondary school located in the north east of Sheffield. We are looking to appoint a talented Learning Resource Centre (LRC/Library) and Literacy Manager to join us on a permanent basis. The successful candidate will be able to inspire and support the literacy development of our students, helping each to reach their full potential on their paths to future success.

As Learning Resource Centre (LRC/Library) and Literacy Manager, you will:

  • work as part of our core team of literacy leaders to develop school-wide approaches to literacy development and achieve successful literacy links with curriculum areas;
  • support the implementation of our accelerated reader programme within school to improve literacy levels of all children throughout the academy;
  • promote a love of reading across the school and to provide evidence of the effectiveness of strategies intended to do so;
  • actively pursue the raising of levels of literacy amongst all students through the running of highly-effective, time-limited interventions for identified students;
  • be responsible for the management, maintenance and effective running of the Learning Resource Centre (LRC/Library);
  • maintain an active professional interest in all areas of literacy and library development and to produce annual development plans to address identified needs;
  • lead and develop our team of student literacy ambassadors across the Academy;
  • be a certified member of CILIP.

You will have:

  • the drive to positively engage students and influence their love of reading;
  • an appropriate qualification and/or experience in library work;
  • outstanding interpersonal skills that will support working with young people, colleagues across the school;
  • A strong desire to help the children of Firth Park Academy, enabling them to reach their full potential;
  • An active role as an Associate Mentor under the direction of the main mentor.

Experience of working in a school setting is desirable but not essential to the post. If you have the passion to positively contribute to our ethos and have the drive to make a difference for our students and parents, then we would like to hear from you.
