Job overview

Mathematics (Teaching & Learning and Pupil Progress), Solihull

This is an exciting opportunity for an energetic, creative and dedicated Mathematics teacher who has the ability to inspire students with their teaching, to join our improving and forward-thinking department. This post has become available for September 2014 due to a determined focus on teaching and learning in the department, alongside the tracking of pupil progress. This key post holder will work alongside the Head of Mathematics and the Assistant Principal with responsibility for Pupil Progress and Teaching and Learning to help move the Mathematics department forward in these two key areas.

Smith's Wood is a very popular 11-18 sports college, in challenging circumstances; we are an incredibly popular choice for students and their parents. Having moved into our new, £26 million, building in September 2009, we also welcomed our first cohort of post-16 students of which there are now 140 students in Key Stage 5. We have made unprecedented academic progress since 2006 and in October 2012 we were judged as a GOOD school by Ofsted. We are highly ambitious for our students; we continually strive to improve, and want to appoint colleagues who can help us achieve that ambition. This is a pivotal time for the future development of the College; if you feel you are able to meet the challenges we face then please read on!

Mathematics is an integral part of the Sciences Faculty and you will be working closely with 18 other teachers, including 8 in Mathematics. Mathematics is taught at every key stage including AS and A2 at Key stage 5. The College is divided into Upper & Lower School, each occupying a separate wing of the building. The Faculty has 10 dedicated rooms in lower school and 8 rooms in upper school. It is supported by 5 teaching assistants (3 in mathematics) and 2 administrators.

Smith's Wood is justly proud of the professional support given to all staff, and the opportunities they are afforded. This is a great opportunity to be involved in a pivotal phase in our drive towards excellence. If you are a person with aspiration, commitment, dedication and resilience then we would really like to hear from you.

A completed application form and a 2-sided letter of application (maximum) in Tahoma 10, outlining why you are suitable for the post and how you meet the requirements of the person specification, must be received by 12pm Friday 9th May. Interviews will be held week commencing May 12th.

'The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.' Applicants must have qualified teacher status and be registered with Teaching Agency. Any offer of employment will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory enhanced DBS disclosure.
