Job overview

Maths Teachers, Redcar and Cleveland

When Gillbrook Academy and Eston Park Academy became sponsored by the Academies Enterprise Trust (AET) in 2012 a joint Governing Body was established. It was accepted that the academies would amalgamate into one new academy - Hillsview Academy in September 2014.

It is envisaged that the present combined academy roll of 1,014 will grow to 1,250 in the next five years, with a further 200 plus in the sixth form. We have been successful in attracting £3 million funding to enhance and enlarge the existing Gillbrook Academy buildings which will accommodate the new academy. The Gillbrook Academy building is a PFI development that was opened in November 2006.

This exciting amalgamation is intended to unite the community and deliver world class learning outcomes in an outstanding, modern learning environment whilst being mindful that the top priority for the community is that students leave the academy as happy, confident positive contributors to their community.

We are looking for passionate, forward thinking and motivated individuals to join our team and drive the Maths department forward. You will demonstrate high standards of delivery in a consistent manner and be committed to improving achievement across all key stages. This role would be ideally suited to highly motivated and enthusiastic NQTs or teachers in the early stages of their career. However, we are ultimately seeking to appoint the best possible candidates for these exciting roles in an academy that has an almost unique potential.

The maths faculty has gone through significant change in the last 15 months. A new Head of Faculty and the recruitment of a teach first graduate has helped to increase the enthusiasm and thirst for learning in what is a relatively small department; we are fortunate to be supported by a team of subject specific intervention teachers and a classroom support specialist.

The faculty is part of the AET Mathematics family; the AET have a dedicated team providing support to the faculty with curriculum development, schemes of work and CPD. Resources are shared amongst all AET schools.

For successful candidates there is the opportunity to teach the entire age and ability range, from 11-19. We are a well-resourced and dynamic department and expect the successful candidate to play an active and enthusiastic role in developing our vision: we feel our duty is to inspire young people to see the true beauty of mathematics in the wider world, by bringing mathematics alive; thereby making it exciting, relevant and accessible to all.

As the sponsor, the AET believes that all young people deserve to become world-class learners - to learn, enjoy, succeed and thrive in a first rate educational environment with the best facilities, the best teaching and the most up-to-date resources available to them. In each of the AET academies, you will benefit from visionary, inspirational and dynamic leadership and be empowered to develop your own skills with access to world-class CPD and Talent Management programmes. You will also be offered membership of a healthcare cash plan, the Ford Advantage Scheme and be entitled to Childcare Vouchers and much, much more!

Closing date: 28 April 2014.

We reserve the right to close this vacancy early should we receive an overwhelming response. All candidates are advised to refer to the job description and person specification before making an application.

We are a newly named academy, tucked in the shadow of the Eston Hills in Middlesbrough. We are proud of our industrial heritage, and of the work of generations of local families, mining the hills and crafting steel to build Britain. Whilst times have changed, we are committed to ensuring our future generations of students acquire the skills, confidence and qualifications to ensure they can go out into the world and make a huge difference.

Outwood Academy Normanby opened on 1 September 2019, sponsored by Outwood Grange Academies Trust (OGAT). The original Outwood Grange Academy in Wakefield founded the Trust to lead the improvement of other schools in the North East of England. The Trust currently sponsors a number of secondary and primaries in the region. Outwood Grange Academy has been a National Training school for over ten years, was accredited as one of the country’s first Teaching Schools. The established Outwood Institute of Education continues this work.

The predecessor Hillsview Academy was judged by Ofsted in July 2017 to require special measures, and later chose Outwood Grange Academies Trust as sponsor to lead the school from a category to outstanding in as short a time as possible. We are determined that the academy will rapidly transform and we have a proven record of supporting schools in this way.

Our Academy vision is ‘Students First.’ We put our students at the heart of everything we do, and drive change in our schools quickly by focusing on ‘Raising Standards, Transforming Lives’. We simply believe that “the whole point of schools is that children come first and everything we do must reflect this single goal.”

We are determined to provide the highest of standards of education for students. Our innovative vertical curriculum personalises the learning of all students. Fast-track opportunities and workshops provide accelerated routes for some students while others have the time to succeed with longer period of GCSE study. Vocational, practical, creative and academic qualities are valued equally in the academy where we really do embrace the ‘Transferable Skills’ agenda.
