We are looking for an excellent teacher who will relish the opportunity to join a new Maths department, collaborate with a group of outstanding teachers across subjects, and contribute to shaping the curriculum as the school develops. School 21 is a small, all through school where each teacher is a coach of 12 to 15 students and spends each week developing their professionalism, aspirations and confidence.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL BE:

  • An outstanding teacher and subject specialist with an excellent track record of delivering engaging, problem solving lessons both through project based learning and investigative mathematics
  • Skilled at fostering independent, student-led learning
  • Creative about pedagogy
  • Innovative in the use of new technology to enhance learning in mathematics
  • A collaborative planner, able to develop projects and resources across subject disciplines
  • Interested in developing the 21st century skills and qualities of every child
  • Experienced at developing numeracy intervention strategies
  • Skilled at tracking and responding to assessment and progress data
  • Able to deliver inspirational CPD
  • Interested in putting together engaging mathematics enrichment activities

You will have the skills to enable students to work mathematically moving seamlessly from the concrete to the abstract and to apply their mathematics in a wide range of contexts. You will be passionate about bringing mathematics to life through real world projects as well as creating challenge through depth and mastery. You will have the ability to ensure that all pupils have mastered the basic skills necessary to use their mathematics and make progress. You will be a reflective practitioner, keen to keep abreast of best practice to improve your teaching and pupils learning. You will relish collaborating with other teachers.

ABOUT SCHOOL 21:

  • 4 to 18 mixed, inclusive school in the heart of Stratford, Newham school
  • Cutting edge pedagogy and curriculum
  • Small - only 75 children in each year group. We have Year 7s and Year 8s currently
  • English Language is our specialism with all teachers helping to develop extraordinary reading, writing and speaking in all students.
  • All teachers spend between 3 and 5 hours a week with their coaching group of 12 to 15 students developing their leadership and well-being
  • School 21 has a major grant to work with Cambridge University to develop a new oracy/speaking curriculum and toolkit
  • We are working with America's foremost project based learning school to develop exciting real world projects.

We think schools should be places where children craft stunning work with real products, for real audiences and as a result of real teacher collaboration. Over the past few years our students have created immersive theatre productions depicting the French and Russian revolutions, built mechanical toys bursting with scientific craft. They have spoken out about human rights, ran campaigns to improve the biodiversity of Stratford and charted local history through photographs and poetry. Student work has been critiqued by directors and historians, professors and artists. All work is displayed, celebrated and challenged at termly Exhibitions of Beautiful Work where children tell us their stories of learning, drawing on their deep wells of oracy and well-being.
