Job overview

Middle School Teacher in Italy

Contract: 2 years

Package and Benefits: Expenses reimbursement / Help with accommodation.

The School

The International School of Siena is a small but growing school located in a historic villa just outside the city of Siena in Italy. As the school grows and expands we envisage relocating to a purpose built campus in the near future. We are fully authorised to deliver the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programmes and we are about to apply to become a candidate school for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP), which we plan to begin teaching in September 2014. Students come from a wide range of international backgrounds and class sizes are small. More information about the school and area can be found on our website at www.internationalschoolofsiena.it

The Role

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Middle School Teacher to implement and drive the MYP with our first full class of Middle school age students from September 2014. As we are a relatively small yet growing school, the scope of the teacher's role will be wide.

Teachers with different subject specialisms are invited to apply, on the understanding that we are looking for teachers who can operate in inter-disciplinary contexts such as English with Humanities, Science with Maths, and so on.

This person should be an experienced and confident teacher with the flexibility to teach in cross-curricular contexts in this exciting first year of the Middle School. We are especially interested in recruiting a teacher who is interested in innovative approaches to curriculum and assessment to become a leader of our MYP learning project as we plan the extension of the curriculum to grades 8 and 9. For candidates interested in developing this aspect of their role, it will involve planning for curriculum, learning, assessment, resources and staffing in our expanding school. In any case, the person appointed will have a key position for all Middle school matters. He/she will be in regular contact with the experienced MYP team at our sister schools in Milan and Modena and will work closely with the Principal. They will also attend IB MYP Professional Development Workshops.
