Job overview

Vacancy No: 1426079
Are you looking for an exciting, interesting challenge overseas?

SCE exists to provide the English National Curriculum to the children of British Service and MoD civilian personnel living abroad. The schools are mainly in Germany and Cyprus but there are also schools in Italy, Belgium, The Netherlands, The Falklands and Brunei. The withdrawal of the British Military in Germany has lead to a reduction of schools and it is expected that SCE in Germany will not continue beyond 2018. It is SCE's aim to maintain the highest standards and continue to achieve good inspection results.

Germany is in the heart of Europe with an excellent road and high speed rail network connecting its neighbouring countries. Germany is an active country with a wide range of leisure and sporting opportunities. Many Germans are excellent English speakers but the community spirit across British Forces Germany (BFG) is strong, so if you prefer, there are plenty of British-run social events and clubs. There are VAT-free shopping benefits. There are employment opportunities for dependant family members to work in BFG, income tax free, in areas such as administration, learning support and child care.

There is the possibility for fixed term contracts of one, two or three years.

You must have a UK recognised teaching qualification.

Successful completion of induction year at the time of application is an essential requirement.

Applicants are invited to submit a supporting statement to demonstrate the criteria of the post. For a person specification please email sce.recruitment@sceschools.org

The closing date is 2400 hrs (GMT) Friday, 19th September 2014.

Interviews will be held in Germany.

Applications can only be submitted by visiting https://jobsstatic.civilservice.gov.uk/csjobs.html where you must complete the online application form and attach a supporting statement ensuring you include as a footer your name on each page you submit.

For any issues regarding the online application process please e-mail peopleservices@dbs.mod.uk or call 0800 345 7772.

REFERENCES - For clearances purposes SCE / MOD DBS require a minimum of 3 references, these must include your most recent teaching placement and your final placement. These referees must cover 3 years employment history prior to the time of application.

In order to fulfil the security and vetting requirements, it is normally expected that applicants will have been UK residents for three out of five years. Time spent outside of the UK over and above this level extends the time taken to complete the checks (usually over the normal term notice period) and in some cases, may result in non completion as a result of insufficient evidence. If you require further clarification please contact peopleservices@dbs.mod.uk or call 0800 345 7772 for advice.

The attractive package for this post includes a tax-free Cost of Living Allowance COLA. This is variable and related to family size. A tax free transfer grant may also be payable.

Accommodation is free for the first five years, with subsidised heating and electricity. For internal applicants, please note that the 5 year rule is not altered if you are successful in attaining a new appointment with SCE.

Please be advised that the Department is conducting a review of all pay related allowances which could impact on those allowances that the post currently being advertised attracts.

Salary values for teaching posts mirror those in the England and Wales Teachers Pay and Conditions Document.

Superannuation is in accordance with TPS.

This post requires an Enhanced Disclosure from the DBS. Service Children's Education is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share in this commitment.

The MoD is an Equal Opportunities employer and seeks to reflect the diverse community it serves. Applications are welcome from anyone who meets the stated requirements.
