Fixed Term Contract for the Autumn Programme

Ref 2404

We have a number of fixed term vacancies (or secondment opportunities) to work on National Citizen Service (NCS) this Autumn from 18th October 2014.

The NCS programme takes place over several weeks (out of school time) in the spring, summer or autumn. It features a short residential away from home, and a project in the local community. It has a focus on social mixing, regular guided reflection leading to social action projects led by the young people themselves - all of which makes NCS such a unique and rewarding experience.

The role involves mentoring a team of up to 15 participants through all phases of the NCS programme, working closely with the team leader to support individual and team achievement, becoming a second point of contact for the team, and ensuring that all procedures with regards to health & safety and safeguarding are followed in line with NCS staff handbook.

You will be required to work across six linked phases of the programme which are as follows

  • Pre programme activity - as team mentor you will be required to attend mandatory training during this phase and along with your team leader contact and meet your team prior to the formal start of the programme.
  • Four day residential - based at an outdoor activity centre, where you will help mentor your team through a series of individual and team challenges set and led by experienced outdoor instructors.
  • Skills and community overview - based at a local non-residential centre with sessions delivered by leading experts in their field. You will mentor your team through the development of new skills and increased social awareness throughout this phase.
  • Plan & Deliver a Social Action project - immediately following phase 3 together with your team leader, you will help support and facilitate the design and delivery of your teams social action project which will be delivered during 30 hours of the participants own time including evenings and/or weekends.
  • Graduation - you will be required to join your team at a high profile celebration event (date yet to be set) where certificates will be awarded and the achievements of your team will be celebrated in presence of their families, guests and an invited VIP audience.

For further details on this post which the job profile and person specification cannot answer for you, please contact Sarah Robinson on 0115 8380300.

The closing date for this post is Sunday 7th September, with interviews being held on Wednesday 17th & Thursday 18th September 2014.

Training will take place on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd October 2014.
