Hours: Up to 30 hours per week* (mornings 6.30am to 9.00am and then afternoon / evenings 4.00pm to 7.00pm), 34 weeks per year - this is a fixed term position initially until July 2015

*Although advertised as one role we will consider a job share for this role of 1 person doing the morning shift and 1 doing the afternoon / evening shift.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Passenger Assistant - Minibus Escort to join Grantham College. The Passenger Assistant will be required to ensure the safe on-board transportation, safety and wellbeing of passengers with a learning difficulty and disability on journeys to and from the college premises. They will assist with ensuring that passengers are transported in accordance with various safety guidelines and that all safety equipment is effectively deployed, i.e., use of passenger lift, seat belts, restraining harnesses and wheelchair clamps or webbing straps. Ensure the supervision and control of passengers on vehicles giving complete personal care according to the individual's assessed social, mental and physical needs. Liaise with appropriate staff and the Curriculum Manager in order to understand the individual and medical needs of passengers whilst in transit. In the event of a medical emergency, recognise correct protocols to follow and act accordingly. Contact the designated staff, relatives, carers, friends, GP or emergency services as necessary reporting details of incidents or accidents of a medical nature. In the event of vehicular problems, ensure the safety of all those on-board whilst the Driver seeks assistance.

Ideally you will be First Aid qualified or willing to work towards a qualification. Possess knowledge/experience of working in similar capacity (i.e. Schools/Hospital/community). Be an excellent communicator, be able to exercise initiative/calm in the event of an emergency situation. Have the ability to be flexible with working patterns to meet unavoidable delays. Possess the ability to undertake physical lifting of mobility equipment and assist those with walking difficulty when required including use (after training) of passenger tail lift. Experience of working with adults with learning difficulty and working with members of the public and being Midas trained would be advantageous but is not essential.
